The Burnay range from the Philippines has a dark, burnished colouring. These pots look their theatrical best when displayed against a pale limestone floor, alongside lighter colours and textures. Superb when planted with pale grasses.
These pots are another unique product to the Pot Company in the UK. They are made in a very remote corner of the Philippines using traditional skills and wood fired kilns. These are the same designs that have been in use in the Philippines since before the arrival of the Spanish. The burnt brown/black colour is the natural colour of the local clay when it is fired to a very high temperature.
Production - Clay is 'paddled' by a Carabao tramping around a large vat. The clay is then hand thrown on a foot driven wheel into pots. The formed pots are then fired in ancient wood fired brick kilns. This production process has remained unchanged in over a thousand years.
Note: the colour on these pots is extremely variable, ranging from a dark shiny almost vitrified finish to a paler matt brown colour. These pots are extremely frost resistant so can be used as a rugged outdoor feature or an unique indoor feature.
