Planters

The use of planters dates as far back as does the practice of horticulture. They first appeared in Mesopotamia around 5000 BC. The Egyptians were the first to use them to enable the movement of plants from one place to another & the Romans used them to bring potted plants inside in cold weather. Throughout history the great botanists have used planters to transport plants around the world by ship.

They also allow the growing of delicate plants in colder regions by enabling total control of soil, moisture & temperature. The earliest planters were made from clay which was available everywhere and was relatively easy to form into a very basic planter. Over time various other materials were used for the manufacture of planters until today when every conceivable material is used the most recent being for biodegradable planters or Jiffy pots. Therefore there is a suitable planter for every requirement as all colours, textures & shapes are available.

The Pot Company supplies the most comprehensive range of planters in the UK, from the very basic machine made ‘Bill & Ben’ clay planters, to the more sophisticated Tuscan style terracotta planters. They also supply a large range of glazed planters from China & Vietnam.

For a more contemporary look The Pot Company supply many ranges of planters in modern lightweight materials such as fibre clay & zinc not to mention their range of indestructible galvanized steel planters.

Their most unique planters however are the giant 113 cm. diameter Wuzhou from remote China & their hollowed out palm trees from Java.
